Katy Perry – Kissed a Girl; UR so Gay

The other thing that smacked into my Lezdar this week – like a big bat out of radar hell – is Katy Perry. She is the latest teen singing sensation State-side, and has a couple of big Billboard hits to her credit already. You’ll never guess what they are called…

They are, “UR So Gay” and it’s follow up, “I Kissed A Girl”. The lyrics are, as you would expect, highly original and of bottomless depth. It’s this good:

Watch out chaps, this musical treat is on a plane winging it’s way across the Atlantic as we speak. Hopefully it’s derogatory homo-content will hold it up in Customs. ‘I Kissed A Girl” is on a similar level. You can watch it here (with lyrics!)

At the risk of sounding like a frizzy-haired feminist, I have to say I prefer the song’s namesake – an earlier country-rock balled by lovely lezzer Jill Sobule. There are differences – on Jill’s website you can download guitar tab; on Katy’s it’s mobile phone ringtones; but there are also similarities – both seem to enjoy tonguing girls…
